Seven VME aspiring filmmakers were awarded the inaugural NALIP / VMEMember Scholarship for the 18th annual National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Media Summit in the heart of Hollywood from June 22 - 25 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom.

NALIP is a national membership organization that promotes, advances and advocates for Latino content creators.   HBO has partnered with NALIP to connect with Latino content creators and was the premiere sponsor of the summit.  Scholarship recipients Michael Acosta, George Cisneros, Tony Lugo, Jordan Martinez, Dennis Sandoval, Jai Pellerin and Jackie Perez attended panel discussions with notable industry leaders and experts, screenings and a star studded gala dinner.

Executive Director Ben Lopez “Since 2015, NALIP has had the honor to collaborate with Rebecca Murga, whose short film, One Halloween was incubated under NALIP’ Latino Lens initiative with Producer and VME Executive Director Karen Kraft. The short film premiered at the 2016 NALIP Media Summit at the TCL Chinese Theatre 6. This year, we were very proud to have sponsored courageous Latino veterans and provide them with the opportunity to attend our 2017 Media Summit. We are excited about this collaboration, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Veterans in Film and Television” Kraft stated “Partnering seemed a natural fit as we both are trying to raise the profile and provide opportunities for our members -- Latinos in his case, and veterans in ours. By collaborating, we could support both our missions and support our Latin veterans working in the creative arts.”

Scholarship recipients were inspired and more knowledgeable in advancing their craft.   Jackie Perez also attended last year’s media summit and stated  “This experience was even better than the first because I was able to reconnect with old friends.  The lectures and panels were incredibly insightful as always, but the passion and commitment to creating groundbreaking content and raising diverse voices shared by all attendees is what truly makes NALIP and its members one of the greatest communities in the industry and I am proud to be a part of it!"
